Her full name was Margurite Annie Johnson, born on 4th April in the year 1928, she was an African American writer and lived for around 86 years.
A multi-talented lady blessed with the art of poetry, a dancing, singing, memoirist and she also fought for the rights of black people. So it would be fair to call her a civil right activist of her time.
She was beyond the word pioneer. The greatest accomplishment of Maya Angelou is the fact that she has liberated herself enough to be able, to tell the truth, in one of the interviews she said;
“There is nothing that I don’t love about my life love it’s a struggle but that’s life, that is why they call it as life”.
She has published several autobiographies, three books of essays, several books of poetry, She was also credited with a list of poetry, movies and various television shows.
Maya Angelou has received dozens of awards and over more than Fifty honourary degrees from various prestigious colleges and universities, best known for her seven autobiographies which focused on her early childhood and adult experience. She also worked with Martin Luther King Jr, and the great Malcolm X.
The poem “On The Pulse of Morning” recited by the Maya Angelou at the first inauguration of Bill Clinton made her the first poet to make the inaugural recitation since Robert Frost which He did during the inauguration of John F Kenedy in 1964.
Maya Angelou died on the morning of May 28, 2014, She was in poor health condition and during that time she was working on another book on an autobiography about her experience with national and worldwide leaders.
